77 fire calls as fireworks fill Contra Costa County night sky

The Contra Costa County Fire Protection District recorded nearly 80 fire calls during the July 4 holiday, when fireworks lit up the skies over Contra Costa County.

In the City of AntiochA vegetation fire prompts evacuations after a field caught fire in the 2700 block of Deer Valley Road. The fire spread up a hill toward homes on Lotus Ct. City of Martinez, They fought a 3-acre wildfire.

In Contra Costa County, there have been at least two known calls for fireworks-related injuries. One of them occurred around 8 p.m. St.Paul for a hand injury caused by fireworks, while at approximately 10:30 p.m. someone in the City of Oakley was injured in the head after lighting fireworks.

CONFIRE has released an update on the Kimball Island Fire which was initially reported to have possibly been sparked by an approved firework in Antioch, they said the fire was unrelated after further investigation.

Here are the calls between 8:30pm on July 4 and 3:30am on July 5. It should be noted that some incidents were not deemed to be a threat when firefighters arrived. Some incidents involved mutual aid by firefighters. Crockett Carquinez Fire Departmentt.
