700 rounds of ammunition and weapons bound for Mexico seized at South Texas border crossing

McALLEN, Texas (Border Report) — Federal agents seized a cache of more than 700 rounds of ammunition and four weapons Monday at a port of entry in Eagle Pass, Texas, U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials said. UNITED STATES.

The weapons and ammunition, along with seven magazines, were headed south to Piedras Negras, Mexico, via the Camino Real International Bridge.


The cache was found hidden in a plastic tote in a trailer pulled by an older model pickup truck, CBP officials said Tuesday.

The truck had been sent for a secondary inspection after officers were alerted by non-intrusive inspection systems.

“This foreign enforcement action demonstrates CBP’s continued commitment to our priority border security mission and helps keep our border communities safe,” said Pete Beattie, Port Director of CBP Eagle Pass.

San Antonio Homeland Security Investigations is investigating the case, Beattie posted on X.

Homeland Security agents have focused on capturing illegal weapons heading south into Mexico, as drugs and smuggled individuals continue to flow north across the southwest border.
