7 people shot on Bambrey Street in North Philadelphia; suspects wanted

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) — Police are investigating after seven people, including a teenager, were shot Wednesday night in North Philadelphia.

It happened around 6:30 p.m. in the 2800 block of North Bambrey Street.

Police said a vehicle with possibly three people in it was seen stopping on Somerset Street. At least one of the suspects escaped and that's when 17 shots were fired in the block of the intersection.

The victims are aged 16 to 46. Police say they are all listed as stable at an area hospital.

Once there, officers found two women who had been shot in the leg. They were taken to Temple University Hospital.

Police said a 16-year-old girl who suffered a graze wound to her abdomen was taken to St. Christopher Children's Hospital.

The other four people shot, two men and two women, showed up at the hospital with gunshot wounds.

“We believe there are many, many people who were outside and that's why there are so many gunshot victims,” said Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small. “We believe they intentionally fired into this crowd and that someone in the crowd may have been the intended target.”

Police say the shooter(s) left the scene in a car that was captured on a police camera in the area.

“A dark-colored four-door sedan, with some sort of yellow tape or plastic securing the rear trunk,” Small described of the getaway vehicle.

It is still unclear exactly what led to the shootings.

Anyone with information about the suspects is asked to call police at 215-686-TIPS.
