7 bullets and 1 dead in Lansing shooting

LANSING – Seven youths were shot and one teenager died after a shooting early Monday morning on Riverfront Drive, police said.

Lansing police responded to the incident in the 300 block of Riverfront Drive around 2:50 a.m., according to a news release from the department.

Seven people aged 15 to 20 were shot, according to police. A 17-year-old boy died at a local hospital and at least one person is in critical condition, according to the release. The age of the person in critical condition has not been released.

“When officers arrived, they found a large crowd and several gunshot victims,” the statement said. “Lansing firefighters responded to treat and transport multiple victims to a local hospital.”

The incident is the latest shooting in two violent months for Lansing. After no homicides in the first three months of the year, the city recorded eight in April and May, according to Lansing police.

No arrests have been made in the Riverfront Drive shooting Monday morning. This shooting “is believed to be an isolated incident,” police said. The investigation is ongoing, they added.
