Missing since 2017

David McAllister, from Bettendorf, is now 29 years old. He disappeared in May 2017. He was last seen at his home in Bettendorf. He left in the early hours of May 11, 2017 and said he would return in the evening.

He had his cell phone, a Bible and a backpack, according to The Charley Project, which profiles missing persons cases.

His mother told Local 4 News she remembered going to work early that day and noticing David wasn't home. She texted him and asked if he was okay.

He said he was walking, thinking and “spreading the message,” his mother recalled. She texted him a prayer and said something she'd never said before: “I love you to the moon and back.”

David sometimes hitchhiked, took the train and lived on the road. But he always stayed in contact with his mother.
