5th suspect in December 2022 St. Johnsbury robbery and murder arrested in Louisiana

A fifth suspect has been arrested in a deadly shooting in St. Johnsbury in December 2022.

Danny Daniels, 32, of Philadelphia, had been wanted since a warrant was issued for his arrest in January 2023 in connection with the drug theft and fatal shooting of Israel Jimenez Lugo. The 49-year-old was killed in the St. Johnsbury apartment where he lived.

Daniels was arrested in New Orleans Monday afternoon following a vehicle and foot pursuit by Louisiana law enforcement, Vermont State Police said in a news release Tuesday. press.

He faces several charges in the state, including resisting a police officer and drug and gun charges, according to a report Monday on NOLA.com.

Daniels is wanted in Vermont for aiding in the commission of first-degree murder, aiding in the commission of assault and robbery with a weapon, and aiding in the commission of burglary, according to the Vermont State Police.

Authorities accuse Daniels of being involved in drug trafficking in Vermont, according to court records. He allegedly organized a plan for four people who owed him money to rob Lugo, who was shot and killed during the robbery.

It was not immediately clear Tuesday when Daniels would be brought to Vermont to face the charges against him.
