55-acre fire in Igo near veterans cemetery forces evacuations

The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection is responding to a wildland fire in southwest Shasta County near the Northern California Veterans Cemetery in Igo.

The fire broke out Thursday afternoon around 3:30 p.m.

Crews at the Veterans Fire scene in Igo reported that there was a bulldozer line around the fire, as well as a hose line surrounding the fire. The last acreage reported by crews at the scene of the reported fire near the Veterans Cemetery was 55 acres.

“The fire is still burning, so we don't anticipate any further progress,” said Cal Fire spokesman Jas Shaw.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, she said.

Evacuation warnings remain in force for four areas in the Igo-Ono region. Zones can be found at https://protect.genasys.com/search.

Firefighters reported to emergency dispatchers that the fire is about 55 acres within the fire lines caused by retardant dropped by planes on the Veterans Fire.

Except for possible detections that may occur outside of these retardant lines, no additional air resources were required on the fire, according to officials on scene.

Shasta County crews are responding to a vegetation fire in the area of ​​Gas Point Road and Veterans Memorial Drive in Igo, according to emergency scanner reports.

Authorities have requested air support to help fight the flames.

The fire burned 25 acres with a moderate rate of spread, according to scanner reports.
