54-year-old man faces additional drug and trafficking charges in fentanyl mixture

DECATUR, Ala. (WHNT) – The Decatur Police Department says a man is facing additional charges after a drug-related investigation in March.

In March 2024, DPD's Vice/Narcotics unit said it opened an investigation into Derrick Brown, 54, for drug trafficking in the city.

During the initial investigation, Brown purchased a trafficking quantity of a fentanyl mixture on at least one occasion.

On March 27, the department said Brown was taken into custody after being arrested during a traffic stop. Officers said they discovered an additional quantity of fentanyl and an unknown quantity of marijuana during the stop.

In June, investigators received warrants for Brown's arrest. The warrants were for two counts of trafficking in illegal drugs, second-degree possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Brown was arrested by DPD officers during another traffic stop on June 6. During their arrest, DPD said officers discovered a trafficking quantity of a fentanyl mixture. The arrest was for his active warrants and additional fentanyl-related charges were added.

Brown was booked into the Morgan County Jail and is being held on $550,900 bail.
