$5,000 reward for tips in Detroit killing of Oakland County sheriff's deputy

Crime Stoppers of Michigan is offering a $5,000 cash reward for tips in the fatal shooting of an Oakland County sheriff's deputy in Detroit over the weekend.

Officials with Crime Stoppers and the Detroit Police Department confirmed Tuesday that the reward was being offered to advance the investigation into the murder of Deputy Bradley Reckling.

“It is proposed to see if any witnesses may have seen or heard anything related to the incident,” Detroit police said Tuesday.

Shirley Schuler, a spokeswoman for Crime Stoppers, echoed that statement. “Police are still seeking information from witnesses,” she told the Detroit News.

Officials said Reckling was fatally shot Saturday while chasing a stolen car in Detroit.

At a news conference the next day, Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard said the car suddenly stopped at Park Grove Street and Schoenherr Road, near East McNichols Road, east of the city. He said several individuals got out of the vehicle and shots were fired, hitting Reckling, 30, in the head and torso.

He said the 2022 Chevrolet Equinox Reckling being pursued was reported stolen Saturday from Red Oaks Water Park.

Bouchard said Reckling was one of three detectives in his office's auto theft unit searching for the vehicle in Detroit.

Reckling is survived by his wife, Jacqueline, and his children, ages 5, 4 and 1. His wife is expecting another child, the sheriff said.

Anyone with information about the fatal shooting should call Crime Stoppers of Michigan and leave an anonymous message at 1-800-SPEAK-UP. Tips can also be submitted online.
