5 people injured, 1 killed in shooting Sunday in Westport

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Police in Kansas City, Mo., said one person died and five others were injured in a shooting Sunday morning in Westport.

A police spokesperson said officers working in the Westport area heard gunshots around 1:20 a.m. coming from an area east of Westport Road and Broadway.

The spokesperson said officers spotted “numerous” gunshot victims east of the intersection.

One of the victims was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead. Five other gunshot victims were taken to the hospital by ambulance or private vehicle. Their injuries were all described as not life-threatening.

The spokesperson said detectives believed there was a large gathering of people near the intersection when a disturbance escalated into gunfire.
