5 juveniles and 1 adult shot dead at party near Pleasure Ridge Park neighborhood, Louisville police say | Crime reports

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Five juveniles and one adult were injured in a shooting at an event venue near Pleasure Ridge Park early Sunday morning, according to Louisville Metro Police.

Dwight Mitchell, LMPD spokesman, said officers responded to a reported shooting in the 7000 block of Raggard Road just before 1:30 a.m. It's in a strip mall near Greenbelt Highway.

Police initially said six juveniles were injured during an “exchange of gunfire” in the parking lot of Prestige By Luxe, where a party was taking place. Mitchell said all of the victims were transported to UofL Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

On Sunday evening, LMPD corrected its initial report, saying one adult and five juveniles had been shot.

The LMPD Non-Fatal Shooting Unit is investigating and there are no suspects at this time.

The parking lot where the shooting took place still contained remnants of Sunday evening's incident.

Six people were shot in the 700 block of Raggard Road in Louisville, Kentucky on June 2, 2024.

Shonita Leonard, owner of a neighboring business, noticed a change in the mall. She opened Schanisy Hall in December. This is another place near Prestige by Luxe.

“Almost all the businesses have left the place,” Leonard said. “It’s been out of control for a while.”

She said parties were frequently held in the parking lot, after guests left Prestige by Luxe, an event venue that hosts weddings and special events.

“I don't know why they don't come into the space and stay there and have a good time. Most of the time they're just in the parking lot. There's a reason they like hanging out in the parking lot a lot,” Leonard said.

Leonard said the parking lot was full when she drove by earlier in the night. She was home at the time of the shooting.

“It was a little scary to be woken up by that call,” Leonard said.

Prestige By Luxe said a private party booked the venue Saturday night.

“Prestige expresses its sincere concern for the teenagers who were injured following the booking of a private party at our venue,” Luxe Collection released in a statement. “We learned of the incident from the customer's family early this morning and are actively cooperating with authorities to provide any necessary assistance. The safety and well-being of our customers are our top priorities, and we are obtaining details as soon as possible. “As the investigation unfolds, most importantly, our prayers are touched by the senseless gun violence that has occurred.”

Leonard thinks adult supervision could help keep teens safe.

“It's very unfortunate that in this day and age, a lot of teenagers or young adults just don't have the same understanding or love for each other,” Leonard said. “Somehow the smallest thing turns into something very horrible.”

LMPD says all six victims are expected to survive.
