49ers WR Brandon Aiyuk's new contract will be worth nearly $29 million per year

The 49ers appear to be getting closer to extending Brandon Aiyuk's contract.

Training camp will begin at the end of July and players will begin training in early August. Ideally, the 49ers would have signed Aiyuk and on the field on the first day of padded practices. And that's exactly what Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer expects.

“I think the San Francisco 49ers will make a real effort to sign wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk before training camp starts,” Breer wrote. “Mike Silver of Chronicle of San Francisco has the offer from the San Francisco 49ers at an average of $26 million per year. I feel like this is getting to the point where they'll have to lock up Brandon Aiyuk, who they really like and like.

“I think the final number, if I had to guess, would end up being $29 million per year, which would put Aiyuk ahead of Jaylen Waddle of the Miami Dolphins and Amon-Ra St. Brown of the Detroit Lions, and still behind the Minnesota Vikings” Justin Jefferson a little (which would be understandable).

“The interesting thing from there would be how the Niners react when calls start coming in on Deebo Samuel.”

It will also be interesting to see if Aiyuk will accept less than $30 million per season. It seems his pride won't allow him. It also appears that the 49ers don't want to pay Aiyuk $30 million per season simply for reasons of principle. So one side will have to give, and Breer thinks it will be Aiyuk.

I'm not so sure.
