49-year-old mother 'killed her teenage daughter with an axe'

A mother is accused of killing her teenage daughter with an ax while she slept because she was “too argumentative”.

Tatiana Degirmendzhy, 49, is in police custody after the murder of her 18-year-old daughter Yulia.

The teenager was attacked with an ax while she slept at her home in the town of Chaykovsky in Russia.

Police say the mother hit her daughter multiple times with the ax, severing the carotid artery in her neck.

It was reported that Degirmendzhy fled the scene by going to a train station and taking a train out of town.

Yulia was then discovered by her brother Sertan Degirmendzhy, 22, who was returning home after a walk.

Reports say he found her lying motionless on her bed, covered in blood, and discovered an ax on the ground nearby.

He called emergency services, but paramedics said Yulia had died from blood loss.

Police said his mother's passport went missing from the home after a search.

However, Degirmendzhy was found within 24 hours while trying to board a train in the town of Izhevsk, 60 kilometers from her home.

Police say the mother confessed to her daughter's murder.

A spokesperson said: “The investigation revealed that over the past three months the suspect and victim had been
constantly in inner conflicts.

“The suspect said she committed the murder based on a personal dislike.”

If convicted of murder, Degirmendzhy faces 15 years in prison.
