41-year-old Nigerian woman, Success Egabor, arrested for alleged human trafficking in South Africa

A 41-year-old Nigerian woman, Success Egabor, has been arrested for her alleged involvement in human trafficking in South Africa.

Hawks spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Siyabulela Vukubi, who revealed this in a statement, said Egabor was arrested last Thursday by the Ministry of Interior because he was illegal in the country, but was later handed over to the Hawks due to additional allegations of human trafficking.

“On May 23, 2024, a member of the Strand Interior Ministry informed that a foreign national who was in the country illegally had been arrested,” he said.

“When the Home Office shared the details of the person arrested with the Hawks, it was established that this was the suspect who was being sought.”

Vukubi said Egabor appeared before the George Magistrate's Court on Friday and the case was adjourned to June 10 as she will now join her co-accused, Nontobeko Mathunjwa, 35, and Precious Abudu, 34.

Both women had previously been arrested by the Hawks and were denied bail at the George Magistrates Court.

Another arrest was made on Saturday by the Hawks who were monitoring a known brothel in George following an assault complaint attended by the SAPS.

He said the Hawks established that the victim was being held against her will by the suspect.

“The Hawks immediately tackled the suspect and arrested her. The investigation continues. The victim was taken to George Hospital for a medical examination and then taken to a safe location,” Vukubi added.
