4 total arrested after escaping from Ca. inmate captured

San Benito County Sheriff Eric Taylor announced on social media that he had located the inmate who escaped from the San Benito County Jail Tuesday morning. A total of four people were arrested, including the fleeing inmate, for aiding the escape. Taylor said unconvicted inmate Daniel Lopez Zavala, 38, was found with his girlfriend in a San Jose hotel room around 7 p.m. Lopez Zavala's girlfriend, Luz Mendoza, 31, of Hollister, allegedly helped him during his escape. Taylor said they recommended she also be prosecuted for her alleged crimes. Sheriff Taylor also told KSBW 8 that a second woman was arrested Thursday morning in connection with the case. Katrina Folsom was arrested for aiding and abetting Zavala. She was arrested after a car stop. Deputies had a warrant for her arrest. It is unclear what his involvement was in Zavala's escape. Jose Perez-Gutierrez, 30, of Hollister and Hayward, was also arrested Thursday. He was taken into custody for allegedly helping Daniel Lopez Zavala escape, Taylor said. Taylor added that they are working to strengthen domestic security measures to prevent a repeat escape. They also work with the county to address staffing issues. Lopez Zavala escaped from the correctional facility around 1:50 a.m. Tuesday by jumping over a barbed wire fence at the sally port while doing a “job” as a janitor, according to the county sheriff's office from San Benito. .Taylor said they established a perimeter around the prison within a minute of the reported escape. His prison pants were found in an open field. A K9 tracked the suspect's scent near 1800 Airway Drive and lost the scent there. Investigators believe he was stopped in a car.
