4 out of 10 deaths identified so far

THANE: Four of the ten people killed after a massive explosion last month at a chemical plant in Maharashtra's Dombivli have been identified so far, an official said on Thursday.

The explosion took place on May 23 at Amudan Chemicals in Dombivli MIDC of Thane district, killing 10 people and injuring over 60 others, according to authorities.

The impact of the explosion was so violent that it shattered house windows and damaged nearby cars, roads and utility poles.

Three bodies, that of a man and two women, had previously been identified.

Based on the DNA sample, another body has now been identified as that of Vishal Podwal, Shashtri Nagar Civic Hospital doctor Deepa Shukla told PTI.

The deceased worked in one of the affected factories in the industrial zone. His wife claimed the body on Wednesday, the official said.

Through this, so far four bodies have been identified, she said.

Shukla said the DNA samples of nine other applicants (whose relatives were missing) had also been sent for analysis.

Besides, a total of 26 body parts found at the blast site have been sent for testing by the Kalyan Dombivli Municipal Corporation and the results are awaited, she said.
