4 mass girls, aged 9-17, randomly stabbed in movie theater

Four young girls were injured in a random stabbing attack at a Massachusetts movie theater.

The girls, ages 9 to 17, were stabbed by a man after he entered an AMC movie theater in Braintree, Massachusetts, at 6 p.m. on Saturday, May 25, Braintree police said in a news release.

The attack does not appear to have been provoked, according to police. The girls all suffered non-life threatening injuries and were transported to Boston hospitals following the incident.

“He walked past the ticket window and entered one of the theaters without paying,” officials said, according to the release. “Inside this theater he met four young women. Without saying anything and without warning, he suddenly attacked and stabbed the four young females. »

The suspect was identified as Jared Ravizza, 26, of Chilmark, Massachusetts, according to the Associated Press on Monday, May 27.

According to video footage obtained by police, Ravizza “ran out of the theater” after the attack and left the scene in a black SUV. Law enforcement broadcast a general broadcast to find the suspect after his escape.

A vehicle matching the same description was allegedly involved in a similar attack later in Plymouth, Massachusetts, according to the release. A 21-year-old woman and a 29-year-old man were stabbed at a McDonald's in Plymouth, the AP reported.

“It appears the crimes are related,” authorities said in the release. The driver was later located by Massachusetts State Police and “ultimately crashed” the vehicle after attempting to flee into the nearby town of Sandwich.

The Plymouth victims also suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to a local hospital, according to the news outlet.

Ravizza has been charged with several counts, including assault with intent to murder in connection with the attacks, WBZ News and WBMA report. It is unclear whether he has retained an attorney to speak on his behalf.
