4 injured in shooting, 1 police officer injured in crash after SE DC investigation takes chaotic turn – NBC4 Washington

Five people were injured Sunday night in Southeast Washington after a shooting investigation turned chaotic when one of the officers called to the scene was involved in a nearby car crash.

A total of three adult men and a teenage girl were injured in the shooting which took place in the Fairlawn neighborhood in southeast Washington.

Just before 6:15 p.m., DC police were called to the scene of a shooting investigation on Minnesota Avenue SE. Officers arriving on scene found two adult males suffering from gunshot wounds.

As police investigated the incident, they linked an adult man and a teenage girl at a hospital to the same shooting, DC police told News4.

As the investigation continued, a police officer traveling to the scene of the shooting was involved in a car accident with two other cars. That officer was injured in the crash, which also left the police car completely destroyed.

None of the injured people had life-threatening injuries, police said.

Footage from the scene showed more than 80 evidence markers on the street at the scene of the shooting.

The details of what led to the shooting are not yet clear. There is also no clear cause of the car accident.
