The girls, ages 9 to 17, were taken to Boston hospitals to be treated for injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening, Braintree police said in a news release.

The man entered the movie theater at 121 Grandview Ave. around 6 p.m., walked past the ticket window and entered one of the theaters without paying, police said.

Inside the theater, he encountered the four girls and, without saying anything or warning, he attacked them, police said. The attack did not appear to have been provoked, police said.

Then the man ran out of the theater and left. Authorities were able to use surveillance video to see that he had gotten into a black SUV and, through their investigation, were able to find the license plate, police said.

They issued an alert about the vehicle, and shortly afterward, a vehicle matching the description was involved in a similar assault in Plymouth, Braintree police said.

In Plymouth, Massachusetts, police and Plymouth squad cars were investigating a scene at the McDonalds on Route 3 South Service Plaza shortly after the incident in Plymouth, Boston 25 News reported.

Massachusetts State Police pursued the SUV and it eventually crashed in Sandwich, Braintree police said, and the driver was arrested.

The man was also wanted for a murder in Connecticut, WCVB 5 ABC in Boston reported, citing Connecticut State Police. This murder took place in Deep River, Connecticut, according to the report.

Movies at other AMC theaters were closed and moviegoers were asked to leave, according to the report.

Braintree police, Braintree firefighters and Brewster paramedics responded to AMC Braintree 10, Braintree police said.
