39 years ago, Cindy Louise Moore died. Oakland County Sheriff Asks Public for Answers Again

(OSCO, May 27, 2024)

Troy, Michigan – It was 11 p.m. on a Thursday at the U.S. Postal Service in Troy. Employee Cindy Louise Moore had just finished her shift and was at the door.

She was heading to Warren where her ex-husband William Moore lived to pick up their 2-year-old son, then go to Independence Township where she was staying with her parents.

At least that was his plan. Something seems to have gone terribly wrong. She never went to pick up her son. She has never seen her parents. In fact, we haven't heard from her since.

May 23 marked the 39th anniversary of Moore's disappearance.

Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard thinks someone, somewhere might know what happened to Moore. The sheriff's office's cold case unit has been working on the case in hopes that publicity surrounding her disappearance may generate information that helps explain exactly what happened to the 28-year-old mother.

“Sometimes, after years, people who had information or knowledge are more willing to share and come forward,” Bouchard said. “Often the guilt weighs on them or the fear diminishes. Please help us bring closure to this family. Contact us if you have any information that might be helpful.

Moore's case is officially classified as “endangered.”

The last known sighting of her was made by a co-worker who saw her driving her silver 1984 Ford Tempo near the intersection of 14 Mile Road and Interstate 75 about 15 minutes after leaving work on the 23rd. May 1985.

A week after she disappeared, her car was found on May 30, 1985. It was parked in a parking space in front of room number 153 at the Red Roof Inn at 14 Mile Road and John R in Madison Heights. Police determined the car had been there since the day after it was last seen.

The car was locked, the keys were missing and there was no sign of a fight.

Moore was living with his parents at the time and had made a down payment on a mobile home in Auburn Hills. She was planning to move there with her son. All of her clothes were discarded and her bank account has not been touched since her disappearance.

The husband was considered a suspect in the disappearance of his ex-wife. He admitted to assaulting her during an argument and once grabbing her by the throat, but was never arrested or charged.

A swimming pool at the family's home in Warren was filled in shortly after she disappeared. Police dug up the pool and searched the yard, but no bodies were found. Detectives say foul play is suspected in her disappearance.

Anyone with information about the case should contact the Oakland County Sheriff's Office at 248-858-4950.
