LEHI, Utah, June 3, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — A 43-year-old Highlands man was arrested for alleged aggravated assault after what Lehi City Police are calling a suspected road rage incident.

At 1:45 p.m. Sunday, dispatch was alerted to an unconscious man in the road near the 1300 block of West Main Street. Lehi City police arrived and found several people at the scene “including a man, unconscious and bleeding from the head, in the roadway,” states an affidavit from the arrested man, John Jeffrey Williams.

A press release issued by Lehi City Police states that the man in the road is 38 years old. The bleeding man was airlifted to a hospital in critical condition, the release said.

“Officers and detectives obtained video footage and witness statements,” Williams’ affidavit states. “The evidence gathered pointed to a road rage incident just before an attack between two adult men. An adult male, John Williams, had followed the victim east on Main and confronted her near 1:00 p.m.

A news release issued by the Lehi City Police Department says it appears the victim cut off the road and checked Williams' brakes as they were both traveling eastbound.

“The suspect followed the victim into a neighborhood where both drivers exited their vehicles and a physical confrontation ensued,” the LCPD statement said.

“The victim was injured during the brief physical confrontation and was airlifted to a nearby hospital in critical condition.”

Williams' affidavit says the two men exchanged punches before the victim fell to the roadway. Williams was not injured.

The affidavit characterized the exchange as a road rage incident.

“Based on Mr. Williams' actions of causing a road rage incident, confronting the other party and assaulting her on a road, causing her to fall to the ground unconscious and requiring immediate medical attention, I have probable cause to charge John Williams with aggravated assault (due to) the victim's loss of consciousness and serious bodily injury.

Williams was booked into the Utah County Jail to investigate the alleged crime, which police are calling a second-degree felony.
