The Lagos Division of the Federal High Court, Lagos, on Monday convicted and sentenced a 37-year-old man, David Ndirmbola, to one year imprisonment for drug trafficking.

Mr Ndirmbola pleaded guilty to one count at his re-arraignment before Justice Nnamdi Dimgba.

He was first arraigned before Judge Peter Lifu. Mr. Ndirmbola also pleaded guilty before Mr. Lifu.

However, Mr Lifu was later transferred from Lagos and the case was reassigned to Dimgba.

Following Mr Ndirmbola's guilty plea, the court examined the facts of the case, with NDLEA's lawyer, Ifeoma Erondu, presenting several exhibits, which the court admitted.

Ms Erondu then urged the court to find him guilty and sentence him based on his guilty plea and the evidence presented by the prosecution.

The court sentenced Mr. Ndirmbola to one year's imprisonment from the date of his arrest.

According to the NDLEA, Mr. Ndirmbola committed the offense on October 6, 2023 at Aboki Estate in Ikate, Lagos State.

NDLEA said it sold 1.1 kg of Cannabis Sativa (hemp) without legal authorization.

The offense contravenes the provisions of Section 11(c) of the NDLEA Act, 2004.
