32-year-old man arrested after attempted carjacking following suspected business robbery, Greensboro police say

BEHIND FIREFIGHTER FRIDAY. GOOD MORNING AND THANK YOU FOR JOINING US. I'm star Connor here with Dylan Butler and Dylan. It's going to be one of those hot days, isn't it? ONE OF THOSE HOT SUMMER DAYS. YEAH. YOU ARE EXACTLY RIGHT. THE SUN IS ALREADY SHINING. LIKE ON THE SCREEN BEHIND US. Yeah, a live preview of Winston-Salem recreating that image there, even though it's not as pretty, it's still a pretty Carolina blue sky. IT IS SAYED TO REALLY HEAT UP THROUGH THE REST OF THE MORNING. It's already 76 hours in Winston. IT'S ONLY AFTER 8:00 SATURDAY MORNING. THE DEW POINTS ARE ALSO INCREASED, IN THE 60'S, SO IT FEELS HUMIER OUTSIDE THIS FRONT. AS I TALKED ABOUT THIS MORNING, IT FELL TO THE SOUTH OF THE REGION AND IT DROPPED OUR WINDS. YESTERDAY THEY WERE OUT OF THE SOUTH AND SOUTHWEST. TODAY THEY ARE OUT OF THE NORTHEAST. IT'S A LITTLE COOLER WIND DIRECTION FOR US. NOW. DON’T GET TOO EXCITED. IT'S STILL A WARM AND WARM SATURDAY WITH HIGHS IN THE UPPER 80S LATER THIS AFTERNOON, BUT A NORTHEAST BREEZE MAY BRING SOME DEW POINTS AND SLIGHTLY LOWER HUMIDITY. SO MAYBE MOSTLY IN THE SHADE, A LITTLE MORE COMFORTABLE OUTSIDE. THIS AFTERNOON WE WILL HAVE NEAR 80 DEGREES BY LUNCH TIME THEN OVER 80 DEGREES LATER. LOTS OF SUN TODAY. I EXPECT THE AREA TO BE MOSTLY DRY, SO IF YOU'RE LEAVING LATER TODAY, MAKE SURE YOU STAY HYDRATED. SWIMMING POOL ENTIRE LAKE. ALL GREAT THINGS TO DO WITH DAD TOO. It's Father's Day weekend after all. WE WILL TALK MORE ABOUT THESE FATHER'S DAY PREDICTIONS, AND I WILL ALSO Preview AHEAD AND TALK ABOUT THE 90'S RETURN. COMING SOON. ALL RIGHT. THANK YOU DYLAN. It's now 8:2 a.m. And a sergeant with the Davie County Sheriff's Office is facing serious charges this morning. The Highway Patrol says the sergeant is linked to two crashes, including a hit-and-run. Our Chris Petersen peered through the darkness, court documents and joins us from the Davie County Sheriff's Office. Slurred speech and glassy eyes. These are just some of the descriptions contained in these court documents regarding Hannah Whittington. According to the highway patrol, it caused two accidents Tuesday evening. WHILE DRIVING WITH THE IMPAIRMENTS. INVESTIGATORS say the first crash happened just after 9:30 Tuesday evening when the pickup truck Whittington was driving collided with another truck on Route 158 at Milling Road. NO DRIVER WAS INJURED IN THIS ACCIDENT. Officers say Whittington drove away from that scene and struck another truck about a mile away. IN THIS COLLISION, BOTH DRIVERS WERE INJURED. WHITTINGTON WAS ARRESTED BY THE STATE HIGHWAY PATROL, ACCORDING TO COURT DOCUMENTS. The arresting officer noticed Whittington had red, glassy eyes, slurred speech and trouble. FOLLOWING INSTRUCTIONS, SHE TOOK AN ALCOHOLYSIS TEST AND RECORDED A 0.33, WHICH IS MORE THAN FOUR TIMES THE LEGAL LIMIT. WE ALSO KNOW FROM DOCUMENTS THAT WHITTINGTON WAS TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL AND GAVE A BLOOD SAMPLE, BUT THOSE RESULTS ARE NOT NOTED. DAVIE COUNTY SHERIFF JD HARTMAN CONFIRMS TO WXII THAT WHITTINGTON WORKS IN THE CRIMINAL INVESTIGATIONS DIVISION AT THE SHERIFF'S OFFICE. SHERIFF HARTMAN SHARED WITH US THAT WHITTINGTON WAS OFF-DUTY AT THE TIME OF THE ACCIDENTS AND WAS NOT DRIVING A SHERIFF'S OFFICE VEHICLE, SHERIFF HARTMAN CONFIRMED THAT WHITTINGTON WAS SUSPENDED PENDING AN INTERNAL REVIEW. WE DO NOT KNOW THE CONDITION OF THE DRIVER INVOLVED IN THE SECOND ACCIDENT, WITH WHITTINGTON. IT IS ALSO IMPORTANT TO NOTE THAT SINCE SHE WAS NEVER TAKEN TO THE DAVIE COUNTY JAIL, THERE ARE NO BOOK PICTURES AVAILABLE FOR WHITTINGTON. HIS NEXT COURT DATE IS SCHEDULED FOR AUGUST 2 IN DAVIE COUNTY. MY NAME IS CHRIS PETERSEN, WXII 12 NEWS AND IN OTHER NEWS, A MAN DIED AFTER WINSTON-SALEM POLICE SAY HE SUFFERED A MEDICAL BREAK INSIDE A PATROL CAR. THIS ALL RESULTS FROM THURSDAY MORNING'S TRAFFIC STOPPAGE NEAR SHERATON STREET AND LEO STREET. POLICE SAY THEY ARRESTED JACO SHULER, 42, FOR A TRAFFIC VIOLATION. They asked Shuler to exit the vehicle due to erratic behavior with evidence suggesting a controlled substance violation. SAY THE AUTHORITIES. SHULER COMPLETES, THEN REFUSES TO PUT HIS HANDS BEHIND HIS BACK. Officer hours were finally able to take him into custody, and he flipped and knocked out a window inside the patrol car. OFFICERS CALLED EMS WHEN HE STOP ANSWERING QUESTIONS. He was taken to hospital where he died earlier yesterday. The SBI is investigating the death and the officers involved have been placed on administrative duty, which is standard procedure and the sister of a Winston-Salem man killed more than a decade ago says she can now rest quietly. DWIGHT SMITH WAS FOUND DEAD INSIDE HIS NORTH JACKSON AVENUE HOME IN 2010. WINSTON-SALEM POLICE ANNOUNCED THEY HAVE ISSUED AN ARREST WARRANT THIS WEEK, CHARGING CHRISTOPHER ALLEN WILSON WITH HIS MURDER. I know now that Dwight is at peace, I know he is, and I know I am at peace. It was a feeling of disbelief, disbelief because I felt like, finally, someone can answer for what they did to Dwight. The suspect has yet to be returned to North Carolina from LAS VEGAS. It is not known when this will take place. GLEN SAYS SHE’S PLANNING
