31-year-old man arrested for possession of 100 pounds of illegal fireworks

(FOX40.COM) — A 31-year-old Northern California resident was arrested Wednesday afternoon after police found him in possession of more than 100 pounds of illegal fireworks.

The arrest comes days after Woodland police announced the discovery of 120 illegal fireworks mortars after executing a search warrant at two separate homes in the city.

The 31-year-old suspect, a Woodland resident, was arrested, booked into the Yolo County Jail and fined $120,000 for the illegal fireworks, police added.

Woodland police said additional charges could be filed against the suspect based on additional information that may come to light during their investigation.

“We urge those who are still considering using illegal fireworks to consider the possibility of being subject to similar charges/fines and to also consider the health and safety of their neighbors,” the agency said. “Just two years ago, a local family’s life was changed forever because illegal fireworks set their home on fire.”

The arrest comes after the city of Woodland canceled its July 4 fireworks show this year after a person helping to organize the show suffered a serious injury while working at a fireworks event Wednesday, a reminder of the dangers of fireworks.
