3 people face charges including trafficking methamphetamine and heroin

Three men face charges including drug trafficking and possession after being found in possession of a large quantity of methamphetamine and heroin following a drug investigation in the Lawnvale community by the Harlan County Sheriff's Office.

James Stephenson, 35, of London, Clarance Cox, 35, of Baxter, and Charles B. Sizemore, 42, of Baxter, were arrested June 4 by the Harlan County Sheriff's Office.

According to a news release, Harlan County Sheriff's deputies were conducting surveillance at a location near Morgan Drive around 2 a.m. on June 4, when a deputy conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for minor traffic violations. Traffic Laws. Further investigation revealed a large quantity of suspected methamphetamine, suspected heroin, drug paraphernalia associated with drug trafficking and cash.

Additional investigation and surveillance was conducted resulting in the execution of two search warrants at two residences on Morgan Drive. Suspected heroin, several pills, cash, a drug trafficking ledger and drug trafficking paraphernalia were found in a residence. A small amount of suspected methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia were found at a separate residence.

Stephenson was charged with first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance (methamphetamine), trafficking in a controlled substance (heroin), trafficking in synthetic drugs and second-degree trafficking in a controlled substance (unspecified drug) . Stephenson was booked into the Harlan County Detention Center on $25,000 cash bail.

Cox was charged with trafficking in a controlled substance (heroin), second-degree trafficking in a controlled substance (unspecified drug), and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was booked into the Harlan County Detention Center on $5,000 cash bail.

Sizemore was charged with first-degree possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine), third-degree possession of a controlled substance (unspecified drug), and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was also issued a warrant for first-degree strangulation and fourth-degree assault. Sizemore was booked into the Harlan County Detention Center on multiple cash bonds totaling $7,500.

In other police activities:

  • Steve Cottrell, 34, of Wallins, was arrested June 5 by Kentucky State Police. He was charged with second-degree unlawful transaction with a minor. Cottrell was booked into the Harlan County Detention Center on $10,000 cash bail;
  • Shawn Walker, 31, of Totz, was arrested June 6 by the Harlan County Sheriff's Office. He was charged with first-degree strangulation and fourth-degree assault. Walker was booked into the Harlan County Detention Center on $2,500 cash bail.
