3 people charged in Beverly cocaine, fentanyl trafficking: police

BEVERLY, MA — Three men face drug charges after Beverly police say an investigation into narcotics sales in the city's Broadway neighborhood led to the seizure of nearly 100 grams of fentanyl and 14 grams of cocaine Monday evening.

Police said Francis Alberto Carmona-Lara, 29, of Lawrence, was charged with trafficking fentanyl and distributing cocaine, and refused to provide identification and was arrested on a warrant shutdown not executed. Juan Suarez-Lara, 38, of Lawrence, had been charged with trafficking fentanyl and distributing cocaine. , refusing to identify himself, operating a motor vehicle without a license and having three outstanding arrest warrants, and that Paul Farrar, 50, of Beverly, was charged with trafficking fentanyl.

Police said a Honda CRV was seen parked next to a dumpster in a Broadway parking lot and officers saw a man leave the building adjacent to the parking lot, enter the back seat of the car, then leave the car and return to the building.

Police said they recovered “a bag containing approximately 68 grams of fentanyl from the man identified as Farrar, who had exited the vehicle.” Police said the two men in the SUV both provided fake Dominican Republic driver's licenses and were correctly identified during the booking process.

Police said 98 grams of fentanyl and 14 grams of cocaine were seized, along with $2,300 in cash.

The two men in the car were expected to be arraigned in Salem District Court.

Beverly Police Chief John LeLacheur also revealed during Monday night's city council meeting that a police car broke down on his way to the scene as the city sought a transfer funds to purchase two new emergency response vehicles.
