3 injured, 2 arrested after shooting near busy Fort Lauderdale park

FORT LAUDERDALE, Florida. – Families watched their children play football Sunday at Mills Pond Park in Fort Lauderdale. A woman was watching television in a nearby house. She said she heard the sudden “tu, tu, tu” of rapid gunfire – which sounded like fireworks to others.

Firefighters responded to the area of ​​Northwest 15th Avenue and 22nd Street in Fort Lauderdale Sunday afternoon, found three injured men and took them to Broward Health Medical Center.

The shooting left numerous bullet holes in a white BMW, shattered three windows and caused at least 22 crime scene markers. It also frightened residents who said they couldn't remember if they had ever heard gunshots on their street before.

According to Sgt. Fort Lauderdale Police Department spokesman Patrick O'Brien said one man who was shot required back surgery, and the other two men suffered injuries to their legs and arms.

O'Brien also said their injuries were not life-threatening. Yet on Sunday evening, relatives waited anxiously outside the medical center, hoping to get updates on their condition.

According to O'Brien, officers arrested two suspects after a chase and found three firearms in their car. Local 10 News has a pending inquiry regarding the identities of the three injured and two detained.
