3 Indy men arrested after stolen vehicle chase through multiple southern Indiana counties

COLUMBUS, Ind. (WANE) — Three Indianapolis men were arrested and charged Friday after leading Indiana State Police on a high-speed chase through several southern Indiana counties.

According to a news release from the Indiana State Police, around 5:30 Friday evening, an ISP officer attempted to stop a gray Chevrolet pickup truck for speeding on I-65. The officer had clocked the driver going 87 mph in a 70 mph zone. The van initially stopped on the side of the road, but as the officer approached, he quickly fled.


The van reached speeds in excess of 100 mph when the driver exited the highway and entered northbound I-65 out of Sellersburg, attempting to elude police. During the pursuit, multiple agencies responded, attempting to deploy arresting devices, which the driver was able to avoid.

Officers observed the driver and passengers throwing an unknown substance from the car as the chase continued north through Scott and Jackson counties.

Five miles south of Columbus, Indiana, the driver crossed the highway's median and began traveling northbound in the southbound lanes, before taking the Columbus exit. While exiting the highway, the pickup struck another car entering the ramp. After striking the vehicle, the pickup truck returned to the northbound side of the road, continuing northbound.

Officers were able to deploy stop sticks, ending the pursuit just north of the State Road 252 exit.

The three occupants of the vehicle were taken into custody without incident. The driver, James Vinson, 35, of Indianapolis, was arrested and charged with Resisting Law Enforcement, a Level 6 Felony, Theft of Vehicle, a Level 6 Felony, Violator habitual traffic law, a level 6 felony, criminal recklessness with a vehicle, a level 6 felony, false information, a B misdemeanor, possession of marijuana, a B misdemeanor and numerous warrants Marion County Judgment.

The passengers, Cedrick Gleaves, 29, and Carl Fulmore, 23, both of Indianapolis, were charged with possession of marijuana.

All three men were transported to the Clark County Jail. Officers later learned the van had been reported as a stolen vehicle in Westfield, Indiana in May 2024.

The other vehicle involved in the chase suffered minor damage, with no injuries.
