3 charged in deadly Marion shooting first blamed on child, police say

MARION, SC (WMBF) – Three people are facing charges in a deadly June shooting in Marion that investigators were led to believe was an accident, according to the city's police chief.

Police arrested Dre'shawn Jy'rine Dorsey, 20, Laniya Ashley Hall, 37, and Jacorial Takyra Gregg, 21, all from Marion, on Tuesday in connection with Nigeria's Davis' death.

Marion Police Chief Tony Flowers said officers were initially told a 3-year-old shot and killed Davis by accident in the 1100 block of Strawberry Street on June 3.

But after investigating, Flowers said they determined it was Dorsey who was the gunman.

He now faces multiple charges, including murder, unlawfully placing a child at risk of or causing harm or willfully abandoning the child, among multiple other weapons charges.
