3 bodies found in Rio Grande, near the El Paso-Sunland Park border

Three bodies were pulled from the Rio Grande on the border of El Paso and Sunland Park, New Mexico, authorities said.

Firefighters from El Paso, Sunland Park and U.S. Border Patrol responded before 7 p.m. Tuesday to reports of several bodies in the Rio Grande near McNutt and Anapra roads on June 25, firefighters said.

Authorities managed to pull three bodies from the water. An “exhaustive search” was conducted for a possible fourth body, but the body was not found, officials said.

The scene was then turned over to law enforcement, authorities said. No further information has been released.

Other bodies found near the border in recent days

Tuesday's body recovery is the third incident in the past three days involving the discovery of bodies near the U.S.-Mexico border, in the El Paso and Sunland Park areas.

Authorities have not said whether the bodies found were those of migrants illegally trying to cross the border into the United States. However, it is not unusual for authorities to have to rescue or recover the bodies of migrants who tried to cross the dangerous, fast-moving waters of a canal or the searing heat. in desert areas.

El Paso firefighters responded around 1 p.m. June 23 to a report of a body spotted in canal water in the 9900 block of Pan American Drive, near the wastewater treatment plant of wastewater Roberto Bustamante, officials said.

The El Paso Fire Department's water rescue team was able to pull the body out of the canal.

The same day, U.S. Border Patrol discovered a body before midnight south of Tierra Madre Court in the desert near the U.S.-Mexico border west of Sunland Park, officials said.

No further information has been released about either incident.
