3 arrested for attack on BJP workers

Mangaluru: City police have arrested three persons in connection with the stabbing of two BJP workers at Boliyar under Konaje police station limits, located in Mangalore taluka of Dakshina Kannada district of Karnataka, Commissioner of Police Anupam Agrawal said on Monday.

District in-charge minister Dinesh Gundu Rao said stern action would be taken against those involved in law and order issues, irrespective of their political party.

The incident took place late on Sunday evening, when three BJP supporters were passing a mosque in Boliyar and allegedly shouting slogans. They were then followed by a group of 20 to 25 young Muslims on bicycles. The three men stopped outside a bar 2 km before the mosque, when the group got into an altercation, leading to two of them being stabbed and another being beaten.

BJP workers were reportedly observing 'Vijayotsava' to celebrate the inauguration ceremony of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for a third term.

Superintendent of Police Anupam Agrawal said Harish (41) and Nandakumar (24) were injured, both hailing from Innoli, while Krishna Kumar was also beaten up by the group.

A large number of BJP workers then gathered outside the Konaje police station, demanding the arrest of the suspects.

Police had collected CCTV footage from the scene as part of an ongoing investigation.
