3 arrested and charged with felony after drug bust in North Memphis

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Three people are facing multiple criminal charges after a drug bust at a north Memphis home revealed a large quantity of guns, ammunition and illegal pills.

According to reports, on May 31, Memphis Police Department detectives executed a narcotics search warrant at a home in the 1500 block of North Trezevant Street.


During the search, detectives found four handguns, a rifle, 382.4 grams of promethazine, 94 ecstasy pills, 17 alprazolam pills, a digital scale, 787 rounds of ammunition and a large quantity of marijuana and cash.

Deonte Adams, Elton Benson and Jakki Chalmers were arrested on drug and illegal weapons charges.

Deonte Adams, 26, was charged with possession of a firearm during the commission of a dangerous crime, fabricating/tampering with evidence, possession of a controlled substance, namely: ecstasy, possession of a controlled substance, namely: alprazolam, and possession of a controlled substance. substance namely: marijuana. He is being held on $400,000 bail.

Elton Benson, 35, is charged with five counts of convicted felon, possession of a firearm, possession of a controlled substance, namely: ecstasy, possession of a controlled substance, namely: alprazolam, possession of a controlled substance, namely: marijuana, and possession of a legendary drug without a prescription, namely: promethazine. His bond is set at $175,000.

Jakki Chalmers, 27, is charged with possession of a firearm during the commission of a dangerous crime, possession of a controlled substance namely: ecstasy, possession of a controlled substance namely: Alprazolam, possession of a controlled substance, namely: marijuana, and possession of a legendary drug without a prescription, namely: promethazine. He is being held on $25,000 bail.

Adams and Benson were also arrested earlier this year on several drug-related charges.
