29th Annual Hike for Missing Children in the Mohawk Valley | Community

UTICA, NY — The 29th annual Ride for Missing and Exploited Children hits the roads of the Mohawk Valley, spreading the crucial message of child safety.

Runners make stops at various schools with powerful messages.

Friday morning began with a ceremony at Sauquoit Elementary School, during which Dusty Wood, Sara Ann Wood's older brother, presented a wreath.

The riders leave the elementary school just before 8 a.m. for an 83-mile journey.

The hike honors missing and abducted children across the country, including Heidi Allen, sister of Lisa Buske, who was kidnapped on Easter Sunday 1994 in New Haven, New York, in Oswego County.

Buske shared the deep meaning of this ride for her.

This year, a team from CBS's 48 Hours is accompanying the ride to document it in a special episode.

The ride is expected to end at the New Hartford Rec Center around 5:30 tonight.

Tune in for in-depth coverage of the ride tonight on Live at Five Newshour and News Channel at 6 p.m. Click here to stream coverage during these times.
