29 people arrested, weapons and drugs seized, fugitive on the run

A man is on the run after police raided a large dog fighting ring on Saturday.

According to the Mobile County Sheriff's Office, on June 8 at approximately 8 p.m., officers executed a search warrant at a residence located at 13020 Williams Avenue in Axis, Alabama, after receiving reports of a possible dog fight. .

MCSO detectives say they located an active criminal dog fighting ring at the location and arrested 29 suspects. There were 32 dogs, 11 firearms seized, approximately 15 pounds of marijuana and $8,383 seized from the home.

A suspect, Jeff Marks Jr., fled the scene as soon as officers arrived. Deputies believe Marks is the person who organized the dog fighting event.

“Mr. Marks has a long history in law enforcement,” Sheriff Burch said. “His arrest history is replete with drug charges, domestic violence and assault. We are looking for him now and if anyone has any information on his whereabouts please call our office at 251-574-8633 and let us know.

The Mobile County Animal Shelter is currently housing dogs rescued from dog fighting.
