27-year-old Chilliwack man charged with second-degree murder in fatal stabbing

A 27-year-old Chilliwack man has been arrested and charged in the December stabbing death of Holbert Tew, 64, in Mission.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) said Matthew Bauer was arrested Friday after a three-week investigation into the stabbing, which occurred at a residence in the 33800 block of 4th Avenue in Mission , near Mary Street, on December 14, around 7 a.m. PT.

IHIT said Saturday that the British Columbia Prosecution Service (BCPS) has laid a second-degree murder charge against Bauer in connection with Tew's homicide.

Investigators have not yet determined the motive for this attack.

It was one of three unrelated homicides that occurred within 24 hours in December in the Lower Mainland, including a stabbing in North Vancouver and a shooting in Chilliwack.

According to online court records, Bauer is next scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday, January 11.
