The sheriff's office said they were conducting a checkpoint patrol of the Cupertino hotel when they noticed mail dumped on the ground. A SCCSO deputy then noticed a car leaving the area where the mail was found and conducted a traffic stop.

Additional “mail, packages, credit cards, checks and a meth pipe” were found in the suspect’s car. The deputy sheriff said the suspect had three prior convictions for identity theft and was out on bail for two pending cases. “He was back for the fourth time,” the sheriff’s office said.

About 250 pieces of “mail, credit cards and checks” were recovered from “victims in the Cupertino and Mountain Views areas,” the sheriff's office said. The suspect has since been booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail.
