25 human trafficking victims land safely in Vizag

Visakhapatnam: Some of the stranded Indian nationals land safely in Visakhapatnam from Cambodia on Friday.

Visakhapatnam City Police rescued human trafficking victims forced into fraudulent employment practices and cybercrimes in Cambodia.

A total of 25 victims arrived safely Friday evening on two different flights from Cambodia.

City Police Commissioner Ravi Shankar personally welcomed the victims at the Visakhapatnam airport. Speaking on the occasion, the CP said that nearly 5,000 Indian nationals were stranded in Cambodia. “After seeking information from the victims, officers will be contacted and details of the other victims will be traced.

The agencies of those who do not have a permit will be closed. The rescue exercise will continue until all the stranded victims are rescued,” the CP said.

Victims of human trafficking were assured of being engaged in data entry operator work by the Chinese handlers. As they were forced into cybercrime, the city's police commissioner said they were not considered criminals but victims.

Meanwhile, DGPs of other states have been informed about the victims of human trafficking. The investigation will also include uncovering details of Chinese handlers involved in human trafficking.

Around 5,000 Indian nationals are believed to be stranded in Cambodia. Of them, 150 were Telugu, the CP informed.
