Police said a street party had taken place in the area before the shooting.

At this time, we do not know if this was a mass shooting, a shooting, or what the circumstances surrounding it were. We are working to find out more.

A witness at the scene told News 5 that hundreds of people were at the party before the shots were fired.

“Everyone was wearing white T-shirts; there were women dancing on the roofs of vehicles. It looked like a scene from a Spring Break movie. It looked like everyone was having a good time. On The way back, it was a completely different scene,” the witness said.

According to the Cleveland Clinic, seven patients were admitted to the hospital early Sunday morning. One of these patients is in critical condition. The hospital was placed on a strict lockdown from shortly after midnight until around 3:30 a.m.

Summa Health said its hospital received 15 patients this morning, 13 of whom had non-life-threatening injuries. Some of these people have already been released from the hospital. One person remains in critical condition.

Condolences pour in across Ohio

Justin Bibb, Mayor of Cleveland

My heart is with Akron today. I am incredibly frustrated to see another community suffering, especially so close to home. No one deserves this violence or to live in fear. I am convinced that all resources are being deployed to bring those responsible to justice. This reminds us once again that we must never give up the fight to get guns off our streets and out of the hands of harmful actors. But I hope we can move past these reminders and take action to finally put an end to the senseless violence plaguing our communities. I am grateful to the first responders who acted without hesitation last night in Akron. My prayers are with each affected family and community member. »

“On this Sunday, my prayers go out to the injured, their families, and all those who were hurt and harmed by this horrific event in Akron. Thank you to all first responders and healthcare professionals for your work last night. “The pain of gun violence continues to be felt across Northeast Ohio and it is sickening to see another mass shooting so close to home. People can't live like this, fearing they won't be safe at a block party, at church, at school or at work. As we wait for more details about this shooting, it is abundantly clear that we have a national problem – and have for decades. assault weapons and high capacity magazines and more. We must ensure that the new bipartisan Safer Communities Act, which I voted for, is fully implemented, so we can crack down on gun trafficking, and we must provide more resources to ravaged local communities by armed violence. We can fix this problem, and we owe it to our voters to listen to the bipartisan majority who want legislative action.
