23-year-old woman arrested for accidentally shooting woman in Duluth – Duluth News Tribune

DULUTH — A 23-year-old woman was arrested after she “accidentally” shot and injured another 23-year-old woman early Thursday morning.

According to the Duluth Police Department, officers responded to a report of a woman shot in the leg around 12:30 a.m. Thursday near North First Avenue East and Second Street in downtown.

Police said the initial investigation shows the woman “accidentally discharged her weapon and struck the victim” near the hip.

Police said the suspect, who has a gun permit, was arrested for reckless use of a weapon. As of Thursday afternoon, she remained in the St. Louis County Jail and no bond had been set.

The News Tribune generally does not identify suspects until they have been charged with a crime.

The victim was taken to a local hospital for treatment, police said.

Our newsroom sometimes publishes articles under the byline “staff.” Often, the byline “staff” is used when rewriting basic news stories from official sources, such as a city press release about a road closure, that require little or no reporting. Sometimes, this byline is used when a news story includes multiple authors or when the story is formed by aggregating previously reported information from a variety of sources. If outside sources are used, this is indicated in the story.
