21 Broome County Sheriff's Correctional Academy Graduate

21 people graduated on Friday, June 14, 2024. No, these are not high school or college graduates, these are Correctional Academy graduates.

The Class of 2024 was introduced and recognized Friday at a ceremony hosted by the Broome County Sheriff's Office, as graduates of the Broome County Sheriff's Office Correctional Academy.

New recruits underwent nearly three months of training that included learning defensive tactics, studying law and other aspects required for the position.

Of the 21 newly graduated correctional officers, two will be assigned to the Tioga County Sheriff's Office, two will be headed to the Tompkins County Sheriff's Office and 17 will be assigned to the Broome County Correctional Facility. These 17 started their new careers today (June 17, 2024.)

Congratulations to these exceptional men and women on graduating today and to Correctional Academy Director Shawn Nalepa for all he has done to prepare them. Our graduates represent a continuation of our ongoing commitment to excellence within the Broome County Division of Corrections and our commitment to the safety and well-being of our incarcerated people, as well as those in their care. The Broome County Sheriff's Office notes that members of the Broome County Sheriff's Office Corrections Division oversee the Broome County Correctional Facility through a variety of specialized roles including investigations, classifications, training field, instruction and sheriff's emergency response team, among other responsibilities.
