2 teens arrested in Burlington drive-by shooting investigation and charged with possession of weapons of mass destruction, police say

ALAMANCE COUNTY, N.C. (WGHP) — Two teenagers were arrested Wednesday in connection with an investigation into a drive-by shooting, according to a news release from the Alamance County Sheriff's Office.

Wednesday morning, ACSO deputies began working with the SBI and the Burlington Police Department to find a suspect in a drive-by shooting investigation.

Deputies had warrants for the arrest of Kayden LeCharles Trice, 19, of Burlington, who was allegedly involved in a May 28 shooting on Spence Street in Burlington.

Deputies learned Trice was at a home on Center Avenue in Burlington.

Deputies arrived and ordered Trice to leave the home. Deputies saw movement in the home, but no one initially obeyed commands.

The ACSO Special Response Team was used because deputies felt the situation was high risk.

Crisis negotiators were able to get someone close to Trice on the phone and get him out of the house.

Trice surrendered without incident.

Deputies learned an unknown number of people were still in the home and refusing to come out.

Crisis negotiators contacted the people who eventually surrendered.

Four other suspects, including two juveniles, came out of the house and surrendered without incident.

During the search, investigators located five firearms. One of them had been stolen and another had been modified. Several stolen credit cards were also found.

Two suspects were arrested and taken to the Alamance County Detention Center.

Trice was accused of:

  • one count of possession of a weapon of mass destruction
  • one count of possession of burglary tools
  • one count of criminal possession of a stolen firearm
  • two counts of shooting into an occupied dwelling
  • one misdemeanor count of failure to appear

Hew was not given bail.

Ben Benduce Fayette, 18, of Roanoke, Virginia, was charged with:

  • one count of possession of a weapon of mass destruction
  • one count of possession of a stolen firearm

He was given a $50,000 bond.
