2 teenagers, aged 15 and 16, will be charged as adults in the murder of a 16-year-old in Detroit

DETROIT – Two teenagers, ages 15 and 16, are expected to be charged as adults in the murder of a 16-year-old in Detroit, prosecutors said.

Detroit Police were called at 3:53 p.m. on May 22, 2024 to the area of ​​Bedford Road and East Edsel Ford Service Drive in east Detroit.

Officials said Barry Love, 15, and Anthony Carter, 16, both of Detroit, robbed a 16-year-old while he was walking in the area of ​​King Richard Street and Bedford Road.

The two teens are accused of firing handguns multiple times, fatally wounding the 16-year-old.

When officers arrived, they found the 16-year-old suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to the chest. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Love and Carter were arrested on June 6. They are both charged with murder, armed robbery and two felony firearms violations.

Love and Carter were arraigned Thursday in 36th District Court. Love was given $1 million cash bail and Carter was given $200,000 cash bail.

A bond reassessment hearing is scheduled for 9 a.m. July 17. A probable cause conference is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. June 21 and a preliminary examination is scheduled for 1:45 p.m. June 27.
