2 shooting suspects arrested in Pottawattamie County

Two suspects in a metro-area shooting investigation were arrested Friday in Pottawattamie County, while a third was apprehended in Omaha.

The U.S. Marshals Metro Fugitive Task Force arrested Shavonne Latin, 36, and Darryl Nelson, 34, in Pottawattamie County, and both suspects await extradition to Nebraska on charges of unlawful or intentional discharge of a firearm and use of a firearm to commit a crime, according to a press release.

The Douglas County Sheriff's Office in Nebraska also announced that Wendell Latin, 40, was in Omaha and incarcerated in Douglas County Corrections on suspicion of the same charges.

On Memorial Day, sheriff's deputies responded to a call of “shots fired” in the area of ​​6700 North 89th Court, just south of the Lake Cunningham Recreation Area in Omaha.

Deputies encountered two victims who reported that three shooters opened fire on their vehicle when they arrived at the Irvington Heights apartment complex, according to the release.

“The victims managed to dodge the bullets and flee, narrowly avoiding being hit by gunfire,” the statement said. “The vehicle was hit by gunfire.”

An investigation identified the suspects and law enforcement requested warrants. All three men were arrested Friday by the U.S. Marshals Task Force without incident.
