2 people rescued on Willamette and McKenzie rivers near Eugene

Two people were rescued and a woman was resuscitated Saturday after water rescues on the Willamette and McKenzie rivers near Eugene.

Woman revived after falling from raft on McKenzie River

The first incident occurred at 2:01 p.m. when rescue crews were dispatched to the McKenzie River between Hayden Bridge and Harvest Landing in Springfield.

Callers reported an unconscious woman floating in the river after falling from her raft, according to the Eugene-Springfield Fire Department.

A rescue boat “happened to be training nearby and quickly arrived,” a news release said. “Passers-by brought the female to shore and initiated CPR. (The rescue boat) quickly loaded the patient onto their boat and continued CPR to the nearest boat ramp where the fire department's Engine 14 was waiting to begin advanced life support .

Crews were able to resuscitate the woman and she was transported in life-threatening condition to RiverBend Hospital, the news release states.

Canoe overturns in Willamette River

Later that day, one person was transported to a local hospital after a canoe capsized on the Willamette River, according to the Eugene-Springfield Fire Department.

At 5:11 p.m., a call came in for a water rescue near the Knickerbocker Bike Bridge. Passersby reported seeing a canoe capsize with two boaters aboard, the release said.

“One boater was wearing a life jacket and was able to make it to shore while the other was rescued by a boat drifting nearby,” authorities said. “The second individual was treated by paramedics and transported to a local hospital for evaluation.”
