2 people arrested during Boston Celtics championship parade, police say

Boston police arrested two people while patrolling the city's Celtics championship parade, which filled downtown with thousands of fans.

Around 11 a.m. Friday, police said a man climbed a city lamp post, which is nearly 20 feet tall, and stood on the banner pole, according to the police report of the department.

Several officers told the man to get off the station “for his safety and the safety of other members of the crowd,” but he shook his head and said no, police said. The officers then scaled the fence and the man jumped from the pole, smashing the pole's banner stand. The man was then warned by police that he would be arrested if he attempted to climb the pole again.

Other officers on the parade route reported finding the same man climbing another lamp post on Tremont Street, across from West Street. About 30 minutes later, he put the light pole back together.

The officers asked the man to come down safely, to which the man again told the officers no. Once he jumped, a police officer caught him as he “attempted to flee into the crowd,” the police report states.

The man was arrested and charged with disturbing the peace and vandalism, Boston police reported. It was sent to the Suffolk County Sheriff's Department and police suspected the man was intoxicated.

On Friday around 2 p.m., an officer saw a large group of women fighting outside the Boston Public Library, the report states.

Police arrested a woman as the group dispersed.

One of those involved returned to the scene to retrieve her purse and told a police officer that four years ago she had had an “argument” with the woman who was arrested at the University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth. She then added that when she saw her earlier, the woman “started talking trash” when a police officer separated them and told them both to separate earlier in the day.

Later that day, she said they collided again, resulting in her being “jumped,” police said.

Visible scratches were found on his nose and forehead. These same marks were also found on the woman the police arrested when she was sent to District D4 for incarceration. The woman arrested by police was charged with affray and assault.
