2 people arrested after cleaning crew found 235 pounds of meth at Alhambra Airbnb

ALHAMBRA, Calif. (KABC) — Two suspects were arrested after a cleanup crew found more than 200 pounds of meth in an Alhambra Airbnb.

The crew was cleaning the house in the 1400 block of Ethel Ave on Sunday when they came across more than two dozen boxes filled with 235 pounds of meth wrapped in bags.

According to the Alhambra Police Department, the suspects were even filmed using a U-Haul to transport the drugs.

“It’s an Airbnb, we don’t know who’s going to come,” explained a neighbor interviewed by Eyewitness News. “You don’t know what they’re doing, what their plans are.”

Police said while officers were still on scene, the suspects returned to the Airbnb in the U-Haul and attempted to escape.

[The suspects] quickly turned around, thinking they were going to run away,” police said. “Ultimately, both suspects were arrested and booked into the APD jail on charges of transporting narcotics.”

Airbnb released a statement on the incident, saying: “The reported criminal activity has no place on Airbnb and we have removed a booking guest from the platform as investigations continue. Our team works closely with the host to provide support and we are ready. to assist the Alhambra Police Department in its investigations.

The incident remains under investigation.
