2 OU football players arrested, 3rd mentioned in OKC nightclub police report

Two University of Oklahoma football players are out of prison after being arrested less than two weeks apart. Today, News 9 learned of a third alleged incident involving another OU football player at an Oklahoma City nightclub.

Redshirt Junior wide receiver Deion Burks was arrested June 1 and charged in Cleveland County with driving while intoxicated, open container and speeding.

Sophomore defensive back Makari Vickers was arrested early Wednesday morning by the OU Police Department.

The University has not yet released any information regarding Vicker's arrest.

News 9 made several requests to OU police asking why he was arrested and booked into the Clevland County Jail. Until now, these questions have remained unanswered.

In Burks' case, an Oklahoma Highway Patrol officer wrote in a report that before 3 a.m. on June 1, the 21-year-old's black BMW was seen abruptly shifting gears. lane around other drivers on Interstate 35 near Indian Hills Road, going 24 miles per hour. above the speed limit of 65 miles per hour.

The Trooper said he discovered an open bottle of tequila and Burks admitted to drinking at an Oklahoma City nightclub called Sin City and was “just trying to get home.” According to the report, Burks blew his blood alcohol level to 0.09.

A Cleveland County judge on Wednesday rejected a protective order filed by a woman who claims a third player spat in her face outside the Sin City nightclub on June 1, before slapping her friend. That friend filed a report with Oklahoma City police.

The woman said in a sworn statement: “I don’t feel safe around him.” News 9 is not naming the third player because no arrests have been made.

The University sent News 9 a statement on the arrests of Burks and Vickers, saying they were “aware of the matter” and that it was “being handled internally.”
