2 local fire departments receive fire vehicles from BLM

The Oasis Volunteer Fire Department and Eagle Fire Department both received an engine capable of holding more than 800 gallons of water.

BOISE, Idaho — The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) donated two fire trucks to local fire departments Monday in an effort to reduce response times to wildfires.

Both the Oasis and Eagle volunteer fire departments received an engine capable of holding more than 800 gallons of water and are equipped with their own pump systems, a news release states.

BLM collaborated with these fire departments because of their critical needs, as these departments are often the first responders to wildfires on private, state and federal lands. Officials said that as wildfire seasons become longer and more extreme, these partnerships have become extremely important for saving communities and natural resources.

“Investing in our local cooperators through the Rural Fire Preparedness Program is not only a vital responsibility, but also a cornerstone of our commitment to effective firefighting,” said Christopher Cromwell, Fire Management Officer for BLM Boise District. “The ability to transfer equipment is the result of continued collaboration and ensures we are better prepared against the threat of wildfires.”

The firefighters got the engines for free.

“This will be the department’s first Type 4 brush truck and will enhance our capabilities to fight wildfires in the urban land interface around the Eagle Fire Department Protection District,” said Sean Marvin from Eagle Fire.

Oasis Fire Chief Chris Sirani added, “This will make responding to wildfires easier, faster and safer for our firefighters. This is a much needed and welcomed addition to our fleet and will be used for many years to come.
