2 killed, 2 injured in shooting at Rock Hill block party – WSOC TV

ROCK HILL, S.C. — Officers are investigating a fatal shooting that happened Saturday night at a block party in Rock Hill.

It happened around 10:30 p.m. on Southland Drive. Crime scene tape blocked much of the road that night.

According to the Rock Hill Police Department, officers heard the gunshots and responded to the block party. There was total panic when these shots rang out. A neighbor told Channel 9's Glenn Counts that people were knocking on his door trying to get in.

“It's horrible, it's horrible that people are so callous and don't really care about other people's lives,” Kamaron Wilson said.

Rock Hill police say a 44-year-old woman and a 21-year-old woman were shot and killed. Two other people were injured.

The victims were not immediately identified.

It is unclear whether police are searching for suspects.

“I saw a guy lying under the back of the car, on the back of the truck, so I tried to help him a little, but I don't think he made it,” Antonio said White. , one of the organizers of the block party.

White said the block party has been a neighborhood tradition for more than 10 years. He said there had never been any problems before Saturday night.

“Everyone is disappointed, shaken, but I think this one is the last one,” he told Counts. “I'm not going to say 'think'. I know.”

Neighbors reported hearing between five and 10 gunshots. The incident happened right outside Austin Roberts' house.

“We were hiding in the kitchen trying to keep a low profile,” he said.

Many people are disappointed that this may be the last block party.

“It’s pretty upsetting that it’s come to this,” Roberts said.

“I know this is something the community has been looking forward to,” Wilson said. “It’s sad that we can’t do anything positive and fun for the community anymore.”

Some neighbors told Counts the 44-year-old woman was trying to be a peacemaker when she was shot and killed. Police have not confirmed whether this is true.

Police have not released any further information about what led to the shooting.

Rock Hill police asked anyone with information about the shooting to call 803-329-7293.
