2 dead in shooting near Los Angeles Fairgrounds

A gunman remains on the run after two people were killed in a shooting near the Los Angeles Fairgrounds on Saturday.

The shooting was reported around 2 p.m. in the area of 1100 Browning Boulevard, according to Los Angeles police.

The male victims were identified only as ages 19 and 33.

They were sitting in their car along a residential area near the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum and the USC campus.

Police said the men may have been involved in an argument with the suspect. That's when the shooter allegedly drove away and returned moments later to shoot the victims inside the car.

One of the victims was pronounced dead at the scene. The other was rushed to a local hospital where he died from his injuries.

The suspect, who was wearing a brown jacket, black pants, brown shoes and glasses, fled the scene in an older model white sedan, police said.

Detectives said the victims frequented the area and one of their girlfriends was believed to live nearby. The suspect may have been an acquaintance of the victims.

The deadly shooting and heavy police presence left residents in the neighborhood on edge.

“The sad thing is the family came out a few minutes later and they started screaming and crying hysterically,” said neighbor Christopher Mallory. “It was sad to see a girl crying so hard.”

Homicide detectives are speaking to witnesses in the area and collecting footage from nearby surveillance cameras.

“We have a lot of video surveillance cameras in this area that we can look at,” said LAPD Patrol Captain Michael Lorenz. “The video footage currently provides us with a lot of interesting evidence. »

The motive for the shooting remains unclear, but detectives do not believe it was gang-related. The shooter is still on the run.
